Agriculture in Konkan


India is the Agricultural Country and Farmer is a King of every agricultural country, also agriculture is one of the most prominent sectors in its economy. Konkan Farms is an independent consultancy helping investors to join hands for the agricultural activities in Konkan Region in Maharashtra. Sindhudurga / Ratnagiri (border of Goa / Karnataka) area is fertile and climate is ideal for rubber cultivation with adequate water supply. Ratnagiri is the famous place for popular Alphonso mangos in konkan, With 50% of the world’s annual mango production, India is the biggest mango producer in the world.
       The Konkan region has made significant head way in horticultural production due to availability of production technologies and new crop varieties. The area under mango and cashew, which are foreign exchange earning crops has been increased by 8-9 times during the last two decades.
       In Konkan region availability of the easy, rapid and low cost propagation techniques in horticultural fruit and spice crops and training of youths have revolutionized horticultural nursery activities. As a result, a large number of nurseries have been developed and are producing grafts of horticultural crops in big way. This has not only increased the employment opportunities to the youths but also strengthened the economy of the Konkan region. In India near about 90% of population depends upon agriculture. it is a great pride to all of us that agriculture sector has witnessed some significant achievement leading to increased production. Agriculture research help to increase the agricultural production quantity as well as quality. In North konkan the farming has been found highly varied in nature. Goa is the only State where the farmers are assured of the price for their produce. Farmers are provided assistance at the taluka level in goa which are located at Pernem, Bicholim, Tiswadi, salcete, Ponda, Sanguem & Canacona and the marketing of the Agriculture produce is done in the Govt. market yard, co-operative societies and local market.
     India is the world's largest producer of many fresh fruits and vegetables, major spices and milk, also india is the second largest producer of wheat and rice. India ranked within the world's five largest producers of agricultural items and aquaculture and fishery are fastest growing industries in india. Every region in India has a specific soil and climate and is only suitable for certain types of farming. In the world people use many types of farming like organic farming, vertical farming, multi-crop farming, green house farming, polyhouse farming and many more. The Agriculture in India is the responsibility of the states rather than the central government. The government administers prices of essential Agriculture commodities to protect farmer's interests. After independence, the government took steps to increase the food production considering India's growing population. In 1970s saw a huge increase in India's wheat production and This is known as the Green Revolution in the country.
      India has a very strong agricultural education system, Although  a number of Indian universities offer agricultural education, The Agricultural universities in India have excellent infrastructural facilities like libraries, laboratories, computer centres and instructional farms and For foreign students they provided accommodation on the campus. Some universities also have furnished hostels for international students.
