Tulsi plant (the medicinal plant)


The leaves of the tulasi plant are important in worship, Not only in konkan but also all over in india.It is a most important plant in Ayurved. It is known as Holy Basil in English and Tulasi in Sanskrit. Other names used for the Tulsi are Manjari, Krishna Tulsi, Trittavu, Tulshi and Thulsi.
      Tulsi has got the great medicinal value. Tulsi is taken as the herbal tea. The oil extracted from the Karpoora Tulsi is mostly used in the herbal toiletry. Its oil is also used against the insects and bacteria. The Rama Tulsi is the effective remedy for the Severe acute Respiratory Syndrome. Juice of its leaves gives relief in cold, fever, bronchitis and cough. Tulsi oil is also used as the ear drop. Tulsi helps in curing malaria. It si very effective against indigestion, headache, hysteria, insomnia and cholera. The fresh leaves of Tulsi are taken by the million of people everyday. For over the centuries Tulsi (the queen of herbs) has been known for its remarkable healing properties.
      In konkan side tulasi vivah is the most famous festival after diwali Tulsi Vivah is the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant (holy basil) to the Hindu god Vishnu or his Avatar Krishna. This ceremony can be performed any time between Prabodhini Ekadashi - the eleventh lunar day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month Kartik to the full moon of the month (Kartik Poornima) but usually it is performed on the eleventh or the twelfth lunar day. The day varies from region to region.The Tulsi wedding signifies beginning of the Hindu wedding season.
      In konkan many Hindus have tulsi plants growing in front of or near their home, often in special pots or special small masonry structures. Tulsi helps in building up stamina , use it to prepare herbal tea, it is also used as mouth wash for reducing tooth ache. Tulsi seeds dried in the sun light and powdered seeds can be used for brushing teeth, it also mixed with mustered oil to making a paste and used as toothpaste, tulsi plant is very good medicine for maintaining dental health. Tulsi is also work as anti-biotic, fungicidal and germicidal and protects our body from nearly all sorts of bacterial, viral and fungal infections. many herbal cosmetics contain tulsi purifies our blood and useful for skin diseases. Tulsi leaves are widely used in the preparation of Ayurvedic medicines. There are numerous uses of Tulsi plant. it also works in preventing stomach disorders. It extremely beneficial during the rainy season, when diseases like malaria and dengue victimize in the country. Tulsi has the ability to strengthen the kidneys. For those people who suffering from the problem of renal kidney stones.
      Tulsi plant and its various parts are used in case of insect bite, fever, cardiac diseases, gynecological disorders, respiratory problems, skin disorders and many more. Fresh juice of tulsi is instilled in ears to get relief from earache, Tulsi is also known as healer of all diseases. For maintaining healthy life, Tulsi is of utmost value.
