Shimla, the most popular hill station, in India. Its lush greenery, fine weather, and snowy hills have attracted travelers for many years. With a lots of activities and locations to go in Shimla, the Queen of Hills gives more than you can imagine.

however, before I take you to the best things to do in Shimla, know few important facts that will help you to plan your journey to this lovely hill station.

Best Time To visit Shimla
Shimla is a beautiful vacation spot. but, due to heavy rain and the high possibility of landslides, it must be avoided during the monsoon season (July – September).

October - February :- Winters in Shimla are famous for snow fall and snow sports. The temperature varies between – 2 ° & 8 ° and you will need thick woolens.

March - June :- Summers in Shimla are great and best for hiking, tenting, and rafting. The temperature varies among 15 ° & 30 ° and you will need light woolens during the night time hours.

The great time to go to Shimla is December -  February, mainly for people who want to experience the snow. you can go skiing and ice-skating during this period.

How to reach Shimla

Via Air - the closest airport, Jubbarhatti, is placed 23 km from the main town. the other close by airports are Chandigarh and New Delhi.

Via Train - the world heritage narrow gauge railways connect Shimla to Kalka. This toy train route is pretty famous with youngsters. in addition, Kalka is abundantly connected to all of the major cities of India.

Via Street - Shimla is about 350 km from New Delhi, and 118 km from Chandigarh. everyday buses, both private and state-run, ply from Delhi en-route Chandigarh.

Additionally, on this route is the well-known tunnel no 33, which is one of the 25 most haunted locations in India.

2. Shopping at Lakkar Bazar
Lakkar Bazar is a very ideal sight for shopping in Shimla, altogether. The long stretch of stores on both side gives a number of the best woodwork artefacts. other than artefacts, you can also purchase wintry weather wears at a very cheap price. It is a great place to pick souvenirs and little items for your family.

3. Ice skating: Asia’s best open-air ice skating rink
show off your abilities on the outdoors ice skating rink is one of the things to do in Shimla during peak winters. The rink attracts lots of people each year looking for an extremely good ice skating enjoy. The ice is shaped by a special method that the British taught the Garhwali highlanders. The thickly forested hillside keeps it shaded and the low temperatures in winters prevent it from melting.

Tattapani is placed 50 km from Shimla, it is truly a heaven for adventure lovers. Nestled on the banks of Satluj, the area is famous for its natural warm water springs, lush green valleys, and one of the greatest rafting experiences that attract lots of vacationer each year. an excellent weekend location, Tattapani will truly rejuvenate your soul.

5. Witnessing sunrise on the Chadwick 
Amidst the Glen woodland lies the tranquil Chadwick waterfall. located 7 km from Shimla, the waterfall is a perfect place to begin your day with. The mixture of aesthetic splendor and a serene surroundings makes it ideal for catching up on some solitude. And yes, witnessing sunrise at Chadwick fall is one of the satisfactory things to do in Shimla in case you are a nature lover. The waterfall trekking is extremely peaceful & mesmerizing.

6. Trekking to the top of Jakhu Temple
At an elevation of 2,455 m above the sea level, the Jakhu Hill is stated to be the highest peak in Shimla. hiking to the top of Jakhu Hill is one of the famous activities in Shimla. though it could be tiring on a sunny day, cloudy, windy and wet days can turn this 2.5 km trek into one of the most exciting activities of your journey.

7. Walking through the pine forests
there are many thrilling short hikes from Shimla that take you via the pine forests in and across the town. some of the lovely trails lead you to the Glen, the summer Hill, the prospect Hill, and the Kamna Devi Temple. thanks to their splendor and the romantic climate, these nature walks are among the great activities in Shimla for couples.
