Christ the Redeemer is an statue of Jesus Christ created over the top of Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This strong 130 ft statue is made with the mixture of soapstone and concrete and it was designed by French sculptor artist Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, with French engineer Albert Caquot. Spend approximately $250,000 USD to built this statue and for making this biggest statue most of the amount was raised through donations.

Christ the Redeemer is one of the biggest statue in the world. It is 98 ft tall (without 26 foot pedestal), and the arms spread over 92 feet wide.
The total weight of this statue is approximately 635 tonnes and is situated in the Tijuca National Forest, over the top of the Corcovado Mountain.
The statue of Christ the Redeemer is considered to be the symbol of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.
Christ the Redeemer is 5th largest statue of Jesus in the world.
The first suggestion was made to build a large religious monument in 1850s by a Catholic priest Pedro Maria Boss. But, for financial reasons this request wasn't approved because Princess Isabel was not ready for this idea.
In 1889, the request was officially rejected, when Brazil ordered the separation of the church and the state. In the early 1920s, a petition filed by a group of the Catholic Circle of Rio, was successfully approved and Construction began in 1922 and It took nine years to be complete.
The Brazil's Catholic community rised the money to build Christ the Redeemer statue.
There were several designs produced by designer to choose from. One was a painting of the Christian cross. Other one was a statue of Jesus standing over a pedestal with holding a globe, that was to symbolize the world.
The selected idol is meant to show that Christ does not discriminate in any way, they love everyone and will embrace all that come to him.
The stone used to make redeemer statue came from Sweden.
The statue was completed in 1931 and from 12 October 1931, It officially opened for public.
In 1931, the cost was approximately $250,000 USD. But, Today it will be worth approximately $ 3.2 million USD.
The statues were made in different pieces and taken to the top of the mountain to built the complete statue. Concrete and soap were reinforced to the materials which used to make Christ the Redeemer.
The right hand points to the south of Rio de Janeiro and the left hand points to northern Rio de Janeiro.
Because of the violent electrical storm in 2008, the head, fingers and eyebrows of statue were damaged. The outermost part of the statue was made with soapstone and that stopped the serious damage because it acted as an insulator. The state government of Rio de Janeiro started a restoration effort. They changed some of the soapstone layers and repaired the electric rod on the statue. All that stones which used in the restoration process came from the same mines where original stone are came from. Christ the Redeemer was wasted in 2010 by a house painter. He had sprayed with graffiti on the right arm and the, he head. That culprit house painter was later identified.
There are elevators, walkways and escalators available to access the platform that surrounds the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
The statue of Christ the Redeemer became listed in the New Seven Wonders of the World on July 7th, 2007.
