Best places to visit in Rajasthan - Destination Bucket

Rajasthan is a state of India bordering Pakistan. It is one of the best place to visit in India and it famous for its historical palaces and forts. Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan has the 18th century Hawa Mahal and city Palace. Rajasthan has many tourist attractions and some best of them are listed below.

1. Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is a Golden city of Rajasthan, based In the heart of Thar Desert. This city is mostly known for its beautiful sand dunes, palaces, forts, temples and rich culture. The city got its name from Maharaja Jaisal Singh. Jaisalmer is one of the most attractive places to visit in Rajasthan with its palaces, museums and heritage temples. The Desert festival is also organized in Jaisalmer every year in January-February to attracts travelers from all around the globe to see the magic of Rajasthani art forms.

2. Jaipur

Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan state. It established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727,  Jaipur is called as a “Pink City” of Rajasthan for its building color. It is one of the most famous places to visit in India, because of its Historical monuments, courtyards, museums, quick connectivity from major cities and an amazing structure where all the streets of the city run from east to west.

3. Jodhpur

Jodhpur is also called as a blue city of Rajasthan located in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan. Its 15th century Mehrangarh Fort is one of the most important attraction in Rajasthan, it is a former palace that’s now used as a museum to displaying royal weapons and paintings. This fort is based on a rocky mountain, which provides the beautiful blue view of the city, that's why this city is known as Blue City of Rajasthan. The royal city jodhpur has some beautiful forts, palaces, and temples to attract travelers from every parts of the world. Jodhpur city is famous as sun city because its sunny weather and blue city for its blue colored houses

4. Udaipur

Udaipur, a previous capital of the Mewar state of Rajasthan, is also called as a city of Lakes. In 1559, this city was founded by the Maharana Udai Singh II, it is based around a series of artificial lakes and is known for its grand royal palaces. This city has many tourist attractions like City Palace, Lake Palace, Jagdish Temple and many other. Udaipur is largely visited during winter season to see its colorful history, landscapes, and rich culture.

5. Ajmer

Ajmer is another best place to visit in Rajasthan, especially during Eid season, because its a home of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, the shrine of the Muslim Sufi saint Garib Nawaz. There is also a 16th century palace which now used as Ajmer government museum built by the Mughal emperor Akbar. The 5th largest city in Rajasthan Ajmer is surrounded by Naag pathar and aravalli range which protects this city from thar desert. Ajmer is a favourite destination for Bollywood celebrities who come here to get blessings for success in their films.

6. Bundi

Bundi is another very important tourist place in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, India. It has a architectural wonder which called as a baoris (stepwell reservoirs). Once Bundi was the native place of a tribe called Bunda Meena and hence its name was inherited. The city is also famous for its amazing forts, lakes and historic architectures.

7. Bikaner

Bikaner city is a home to the famous 16th century Junagarh Fort located in Rajasthan, surrounded by the Thar Desert. It is a large complex of elaborated buildings and halls. The Karni Mata Temple is a wonderful place to visit near Junagarh Fort, because it is a home to many rats which considered sacred by Hindu devotees. Rao Bhika and the Nehra jats founded this bikaner city, filled with forts, palaces and temples, the city is also organize  its Camel festival during January-February.

8. Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh is one of the most ancient cities in the history of India, located in Rajasthan. It’s known for the 7th century Chittorgarh Fort, a huge hilltop fort with many temples and monuments. The 15th century, 9 story Vijay Stambh is built from white marble and red sandstone. It offers stunning views of the city from the top. The maurya dynasty founded this city in 734 AD. This city has been the birth place for many historical personalities, like Maharana Pratap and Mira Bai. It is situated on the banks of the Berach River, and has many heritage fortresses, monuments and related stories and facts.

9. Alwar

Alwar city, formerly known as Ulwar is a home to the most haunted place in India "Bhangarh fort" in Rajasthan. It was founded by the Pratap Singh in 1770. Visit Alwar to experience historical palaces, forts, gardens and the Sariska Tiger Reserve. Ajmer is a perfect example of a balanced ecology.

10. Sawai Madhopur

Sawai Madhopur was founded by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh in 1763, Sawai Madhopur is one of the best tourist places to visit in Rajasthan. Ranthambhore National Park is famous place in Sawai Madhopur, which is well known for tigers. The Ranthambhore Palace is another famous tourist destination here, and this place is declared a UNESCO heritage site. It reflects the vast cultural history of many clans, kings and architecture.
