The people who live here have been well educated and recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited this village. He also honored many people which are associated with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Along with cleanliness this village is also the best in education. The literacy rate of the village is 100% and most of the people in this village speak only in English language. Mawlynnong Village is located in Khasi Hills, which located 90 kilometers from Shillong district of Meghalaya on Indo-Bangladesh border. More than 100 families are living in this village. The cultivation of betel nut are the main means of livelihood here. The people in this village collect all their house garbage in bamboo made dustbins and collect them in one place and use it as fertilizer for cultivation.

The cleanest village in India, has became Asia's most cleanest place in 2003. The most important thing of this village is that the villagers do all the cleaning here, they are not dependent upon any kind of government administration. This whole village has bamboo made dustbins at every place. If any villager is seen any dust while walking on the road, then he will stop and put it in the dustbin and then proceed further. There are also many beautiful spots for travelers around the village, such as its main attraction Living Route Bridge (Bridge made from tree roots), Waterfall and Balancing Rocks.
