Andaman and Nicobar Islands are now ready for the makeover. The central government of India has decided to improve the infrastructure and connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, because of its increasing popularly as a amazing tourist destination in the world. Now many tourist from all over the world come to this islands for enjoying their holidays. This islands are now becomes a fastest growing tourist destination in the world, after its makeover.
In this development projects they are aimed at the physical infrastructure development in terms of road, air and sea transportation, improving electricity and mobile internet connectivity as well as tourism promotion of this islands to attract more tourist to visit this beautiful islands. The main sectors selected for the development in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are infrastructure, tourism industry, eco-friendly green energy and skill development.
In first face five islands have been identified for the HDI project and other 12 islands will be added later. The connectivity improvement has been given the top priority for getting better Internet speed, so tourist can easily connect with their relatives and family while enjoying their holidays in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Air connectivity
The civil development works completed at Diglipur Airport on the north tip of Andaman and the Andaman Airways are set to began their air operation from June. Port Blair has been declared as a authorized immigration check point for entry or exit from India with valid documents for all of passengers.
Seaplane operations
The seaplane operations are opened at four locations in Andamans including Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Hut Bay and Long Island under the scheme of ministry of civil aviation "UDAAN Regional Connectivity".
Road connectivity
The Andaman Trunk Road is set for an upgrade with the grant of Coastal Regulation Zone clearance for the Middle Strait Bridge in December 2018. The approval has been also obtained for Chatham-Bambooflat bridge in Port Blair, to fulfilment the long timing demand of the residents.
Tourism promotion
There are four tourism projects have been developed as a 'ready to launch' projects under the Public Private Partnership model. Also for increasing its tourism, 30 islands have been exempted from the Restricted Area Permit. A only mandatory requirement for visit these islands is the registration after arriving in the island within 24 hours of their entry.
Green Energy
The environment of this islands is very sensitive, so the maximum use of eco-friendly green energy has been given a first priority. For this there are two solar energy plants with the capacity of 45 MW (20 MW by Neyveli Lignite Corporation and 25 MW by National Thermal Power Corporation are work in progress. They also signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the National Thermal Power Corporation for developing a 50 MW LNG-based power plant.
Telecommunications and Internet
Work is in process for the laying a submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) between Chennai and Port Blair and eight other islands. The project is likely to be completed in June 2020, after which unlimited high speed broadband Internet access shall be available there for both locals and tourists, which also helps to increase the visitors to this amazing islands.
