Konkan or the Konkan Coast as specifically called in the state of Maharashtra, is a section of the western coastline of India. It is a 720 km long coastline. It extends from Mumbai up to Goa in south. Konkan is well known for its natural beauty and is fast emerging as a favorite tourist destination. Konkan's greenery, coconut trees, beautiful virgin beaches, waterfalls, mountains and lush green valleys will definitely provide a rich and pleasant experience for the traveler.
    Konkan is a naturally gifted area of the state. The people are literate and generally well off. In konkan people's are mainly depend upon fishing and farming. They are a generally peace loving people who are helpful and friendly towards Tourists. Also the konkani food is a very famous part of konkan. Coconut is the base of their food, the frequent use of kokam, the spicy curries, the cooling lentils, the sweet drinks and the fried fish. Whether its food at a homestay, or a local eatery, a beach shack or a welcoming bungalow. Seafood has been more popular in Konkani cuisine, there are other foods used, such beef, mutton and chicken.       The beaches of Konkan in Maharashtra are spectacular and whole coastline is a stretch of awesomeness. Golden sands, blue waters, not much crowd on the beach except that lone fisherman trying his luck in the midday sun.       The Peoples in konkan are a hearty and festive people by nature. Their love for celebration is deeply rooted in their culture and it finds its expression through the various festivals celebrated throughout the year. Some, Main Festivals celebrated in the Konkan area are: Diwali, Dassera, Gudhi Padwa, Ganesh Chaturthi, Narali poornima, Holi, Makar sankranti and Nag Panchami.
      After Independence the large number people in konkan migrated to Mumbai and other cities. Today, nearly half of the Konkanis can be found outside India, particularly in the Arab states.
      Marathi and Kokani are main languages spoken in konkan besides Hindi and English.
